Happy Easter – My Favorite Holiday of the Year!
- Intentionally kept short because I know you have a busy weekend ahead and I wanted you to have time to read to the end. 😉
As we prepare to celebrate Easter I would like to share with you a few thoughts about why I love this holiday so much and hopefully encourage you if you’re struggling in some area of your life right now.
Easter is my favorite holiday because it’s a day filled with Hope – Renewal – Restoration and New Beginnings.
Never has that been clearer to me than during the past year as I fought to recover from a concussion.
I started this blog ONE year ago, one week before Easter – during one of the darkest times that I have personally ever experienced. Yet in the midst of emotional, physical and spiritual “darkness” I felt ‘compelled’ to start a blog that inspires others (???) Go Figure!
Did I ask “Why now?” — You bet I did, especially on the days when it felt like it was all I could do just to get through the day myself. Yet despite my own fears and struggles I continued to make progress on my blog until September when the Dr. said I needed to take the rest of the year off to allow my brain to heal. At that point it would have been EASY to just give up on my dream and let it die a natural death …But I couldn’t and even though I still have days where I struggle with forgetfulness and anxiety I have NO REGRETS.
Which brings me to the reason for this post — I feel like someone reading this needs a Fresh Start.
Maybe you’ve recently experienced the death of a loved one or your marriage ended despite your best efforts to save it – or your child is going through something that’s breaking your heart.
If you’re in a period of darkness right now and you feel as if you can’t face tomorrow –
Trust me I understand!
There were days last year when I lay face down on the floor and cried “Lord, if tomorrow is going to be as dark as today — I’d just as soon not face it.” You see, it’s hard – when you’re going through the darkness – to believe you will EVER have a better day – But you will!
Here I am ONE year later and I’m (almost) back to normal — OK, normal for me 🙂
And while this blog is really about all things “Home” last year I was reminded that if our homes are to be healthy we must be healthy. Life gets really hard sometimes but it’s during those dark times that our character is revealed and we’re faced with a decision to keep going or give up.
If you are going through a period like this right now my best advice would be: Don’t go it alone – One of the reasons I struggled (more than was necessary) was because of my decision to isolate myself – only a few of my closest friends had any idea what I was going through. I would NOT do that again. If you’re going through something that’s causing you anxiety and loss of sleep – talk to a counselor. your pastor or someone who can offer sound advice.
And remember – NO matter what lie the devil is telling you right now – you’re NOT alone. God PROMISED to never leave you and He keeps His promises.
Why am I writing about this on a blog that’s about home? Because your home is only as healthy as you are! If you are physically, mentally, emotionally or spiritually drained you need an Easter in your life. It all starts with a relationship with Jesus. Everything else flows from that.
Listen, I LOVE organizing and decorating (probably) more than anyone you know – but if I’m depending on those 2 things alone to make my home a Haven – then I’m in trouble before I start. (And so are you)
I know this isn’t my typical blog post but I just felt like someone needed a word of encouragement – A reminder that there are brighter days ahead.
Here’s to New Beginnings – Fresh Starts and Happy Gatherings!
May you be reminded this Easter that no matter what you’re going through —
Because of the Resurrection – There’s still Hope – Your Future is as Bright as the Promises of God!
