Here you’ll find answers to a few of my most FAQ’s along with a few TIPS to help you:
Add Order and Beauty to Everyday Life
They’re in no particular order – so feel free to scroll until you find what you’re looking for.
Laundry has to be done anyway– So why not make it enjoyable!
There are certain tasks you will never, ever love!! No matter how hard you try! Let’s face it — Some things in life are Simply aren’t Fun – but they’ve Gotta be done anyway – Right?? So the way I see it … we have THREE choices:
*Pay someone else to do them (my favorite choice) 🙂
*Be Miserable every time we do them — OR
*Find a way to make them more enjoyable when we do them.
Laundry is only one example 🙂
Think about it for a second – What tasks must you do on a daily, weekly, monthly or yearly basis…that you put off doing because deep down inside you either – Hate doing them – OR – you “think” they take longer than they actually do?
By nature I am a very upbeat, optimistic person, so it comes natural for me to find pleasure in just about everything — but my “thorn in the flesh” when it comes to home maintenance is paper work.
I will NEVER love it, no matter how many bright colored folders I purchase or how many way’s I organize it. 🙂
However, I’ve found the task goes a LOT quicker and I find more joy in doing it — IF — I keep flowers and/or a framed motivational quote on my desk.
There’s just something about fresh flowers and a cluttered desk that doesn’t go together (at least in my mind) so I ALWAYS try to keep flowers on my desk – Even if it’s only a single bloom!
So think about the tasks in your life that make you cringe inside when you do them and find a way to make them more enjoyable (even if you still don’t jump up and down inside)
Create ambiance in your home!
Webster describes ambiance as: The character and atmosphere of a place.
What kind of atmosphere does you home have?
Whether you like or not…when others think of your home a certain “thing” comes to mind. It could be the way your home smells or the way it’s creatively decorated. Just make sure you are giving the message you want to give.
Life is BUSY – And if you aren’t careful in all the busyness you will neglect your own health and well being.
This one is HUGE for me. It comes pretty easy to me to take care of others — but myself — that is a whole ‘nother matter!
I confess, I am getting better — but I have a long way to go for sure!
** Maybe you could share some tips with me in the comments section below on how you’ve learned to pamper yourself — thanks in advance 🙂
Learn to Putter!
We often become so familiar with our surroundings that we don’t see things the way others see them so take a day every now and then and just “putter” in your own home.
Just walk around and try to see things in a new light. I call this “shopping at home.” One of my favorite ways to create a “new” look both in my own home and with clients is the re-purpose items I/they already have.
Go ahead – Give it a try – I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised with the outcome.
Have a Detox day from ALL things electronic!
There’s a very popular trend going around to detox your body – But I would like to inspire – motive – push – challenge (whatever it takes) you (and especially your children) into detoxing your mind and your home by taking ONE FULL DAY occasionally to turn off ALL electronics —
Yes, ALL of THEM — Phones, TV’s, Radios, Tablets —- Anything electronic.
If you don’t think you can do this for a whole day start with baby steps – Go ONE hour then add to it over time until you can detox for an entire day (or week) I dare you!!
This will probably be a LOT harder than you think and your kids will probably balk on this one but you will be AMAZED at the impact it will have in your home and on your life!
IF you really want to change your life and the lives of your children — You have GOT to UNPLUG sometime!
The first 2 or 3 times you do this, you (and especially your kids) will probably be “bored” out of your minds – But it WILL CHANGE YOUR LIFE — I guarantee this one!!
If you try this and you’re not AMAZED with the results….email me and I will do something VERY SPECIAL for you.
Don’t save the good china for company!
I am so grateful that the trend for young people getting married nowadays is to NOT choose a set of China.
Who’s idea was this to begin with? To invest and EXORBITANT amount of money in dishes we’re then to afraid to use because we might ‘break them.’
Does that even make sense? 🙁
However, if you happen to have one of those “fancy” sets of dishes — do me (and your family) a favor and USE THEM 🙂
Don’t just save them for company or holidays. Let using your ‘fancy dishes’ become a teaching tool with your children.
There are so many lessons that could be taught here I can’t even begin to go into them all…but for starters:
- Manners —
- That people are more important than things —
- The art of dining —
- To make your family feel specialI could go on, but I think you get the picture. Life is too short to save the good china for Christmas!
Eat together AS a Family!
OK, I “could” get on a soapbox here (but I won’t) LOL
Our world seems to be spiraling out of control and yet we can’t seem to see the areas where the cracks are.
It’s called a “Family” for a reason. Even if your single or a single parent it’s SO important to “sit down” and have your meal. Turn off the noise and enjoy the taste of your food.
Enough said (for now) 🙂
Create intimate spaces for yourself and your family
We all need one little corner to call our own!
If you’ve read My Story then you know I grew up the oldest of 6 in a home with no electricity or water inside the home but even in a 3 room house I was able to carve out a space that was “just mine.”
OK, it wasn’t “inside” the home but I still found a way to get alone by myself and dream.
Fortunately we lived where I could take long walks and just quite my soul, and I confess I am NOT sure where I would be today — had I not found those places of solace.
If your goal is to have a home that feels like a Haven then you need a place to ‘steal away and think.’
Stop waiting for someday
Do you ever find yourself saying….
- Someday, I will get organized
- Someday, I will lose weight
- Someday, I will take care of myself
- Someday, I will look for a new job
What’s your someday? Whatever it is — Decide TODAY to do ONE THING that will move you closer to making your someday’s — TODAY’S!
Remember — A house is made of wood and stone but only love can make it home!
If you choose to follow me, you will hear this often because, I believe it with every fiber of my being — IT’S NOT ABOUT THE STUFF!!
You can hire the “Best Organizer” or “Designer” you know to organize and decorate “every nook and cranny” but if there’s a spirit of discord in the home — It will NEVER (let me repeat — NEVER) feel like a Haven!
Take time to nurture the relationships with your loved ones — Because at the end of the day — That’s what REALLY MATTERS!
“Why do we love certain houses, and why do they seem to love us ?
It is the warmth of our individual hearts reflected in our surroundings.”
